What Is Invisalign and How Does It Work
Invisalign is a clear aligner system that gradually shifts teeth into the desired position using a series of custom-made, removable plastic trays. Each tray is worn for one to two weeks before progressing to the next one in the series. Because the trays are transparent and can be removed for eating and cleaning, most people around you will not notice you are in orthodontic treatment at all.
Invisalign is manufactured by Align Technology, a US-based company, and the trays are produced using 3D scanning and computer modelling. Your dentist or orthodontist will show you a digital simulation of your expected result before you commit to treatment.
Is Invisalign Right for You
Invisalign works well for a wide range of orthodontic issues including crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite. It is most suitable for mild to moderate cases. Severe skeletal issues, very large rotations, or complex bite problems may still require traditional braces or a combined approach. The only reliable way to know is a consultation with a certified Invisalign provider who can assess your specific anatomy.
Adults and teenagers both use Invisalign in Dubai. There is a specific product for teens (Invisalign Teen) that includes compliance indicators and additional replacement trays.
What the Treatment Process Looks Like
- Initial consultation — The provider takes an iTero digital scan (no messy putty impressions) and uses ClinCheck software to model your tooth movements. You review the projected outcome before starting.
- Tray delivery — Your full set of aligners arrives within a few weeks. Small tooth-coloured attachments (buttons) are bonded to some teeth to help the trays grip and move specific teeth more precisely.
- Wearing and progressing through trays — You wear each tray for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing only to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush. Check-ups are every six to eight weeks.
- Refinements — If some teeth have not moved exactly as planned, a new set of refinement trays is ordered at no extra cost in most cases (confirm this with your provider).
- Retention — On completion you receive retainers, which must be worn nightly long-term to prevent teeth drifting back.
What Does Invisalign Cost in Dubai
Invisalign pricing in Dubai depends on the product tier and the complexity of your case:
- Invisalign Full (most cases) — AED 10,000 to AED 20,000
- Invisalign Lite (minor corrections, up to 14 trays) — from AED 7,000
- Retainers after treatment — AED 500 to AED 1,000 per set (you will need replacements over time)
Be cautious of significantly lower quotes — they may not include refinements, retainers, or the iTero scan. Ask for an itemised breakdown before committing.
Finding a Certified Provider in Dubai
Align Technology awards certification tiers to providers based on their volume of treated cases: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Diamond and Platinum providers have treated the most Invisalign cases and tend to handle complex situations with greater experience. The Invisalign website has a provider locator where you can filter by tier and location across Dubai neighbourhoods such as DIFC, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah, and Mirdif.
Invisalign vs Other Clear Aligner Brands
Several other clear aligner brands are sold in Dubai including Spark, uLab, and some local or regional brands at lower price points. Invisalign has by far the largest body of clinical research behind it. If you are considering a non-Invisalign aligner, ask the provider about their experience with that specific system and request before-and-after cases to review.
